AXIS Camera Station Edge is an easy-to-install, easy-to-use, packaged video management system. It's a cloud-first solution, so most functions need an internet connection to work. In this guide, you'll find a summary of the main features and functions.
- The complete solution includes:
AXIS Camera Station Edge desktop client: The client you use to install and configure devices.
Mobile app for AXIS Camera Station Edge: Provides access to recordings and live video across multiple sites. Available for Android and iOS devices.
Cloud web application: AXIS Camera Station Edge lets you connect to cloud services to view video and manage devices, as well as use optional cloud storage, from an internet browser.
Axis Secure Remote Access (SRA): An Axis technology that lets you securely access Axis cameras and surveillance systems from anywhere, with no need to configure port forwarding, VPNs, or firewall rules. It’s automatically configured during installation.
General client features

| Operator-selectable video stream profiles (low and high) | Useful for low-bandwidth connections and for a better operator experience. |
| Stream information for diagnostics (F12 on your keyboard) | Shows live-view performance information instantly, such as communication mode (TURN or peer-to-peer), bandwidth, frame rate, and resolution. |
| Secure Remote Access | Uses encryption (AES-256, TLS 1.2) and multi-level authentication to keep data transfer secure. |
| Data-saving mode | Lowers video quality on all streams to “low” when video streams over TURN servers and you've been inactive for more than 5 minutes. It also stops all active video streams automatically if you minimize the client. |
| Offline mode | Lets you use AXIS Camera Station Edge without an internet connection. You're limited to live view and recordings in this mode. |
Software customization

Recording playback

| Color-coded timeline with filter | Clear color coding for different types of recordings and events, with filters to quickly locate the incident you need. |

Recordings and events

| Continuous and motion-based recording | Set the recording mode for each camera, including alarm-triggered recording. |
| Pre-buffer for motion detection recordings | A 5-second pre-alarm buffer records video from just before a detected event, so you get the full picture. |
| Configurable include and exclude areas for motion detection | Define a free-shape include area and multiple exclude areas to improve motion detection performance and reduce false alarms. |
| Configurable object categories | Detect objects such as humans and vehicles. |
| Motion detection filters | Filter out short-lived, small, and swaying objects to reduce false alarm triggers. |
| Scheduling | Use predefined schedules to record only during certain hours, or edit and create your own. Schedule changes apply only to the camera you're editing. |
Active alarm handling

| Alarm alerts and notifications | Sends alarms to users connected to the site. |
| Alarm view | Automatically switches to the video view associated with the alarm. |
Video export

| Right-click to select video for export | Right-click an event and select Export. |
| Markers to select video for export | Set the start and end of an export using markers. Drag a marker to preview the video without needing to know the exact time the event occurred. |
| Add multiple cameras and recorded sequences to an export | Combine different cameras and recordings from different times into one export for a complete overview of the incident. |
| Digital signature | Increases the evidential value of exported material. Use the digital signature to verify that a video export hasn't been tampered with since export. |
| Integrated signed video | Axis video streams include information that the file player uses to verify the authenticity of exported video. |
| Exported video formats | Export video as MKV or MP4. |
| Axis File Player | Included by default so third parties can play exported video without installing extra software. |
User management and permissions

Scalability

| Site scalability | A site is a single point of entry to a surveillance solution, for example, all the cameras in a store. Keep track of several sites through a single My Axis account. Each site supports up to 150 devices; staying within this limit helps maintain reliable operation. For larger deployments, we recommend splitting devices across multiple sites. |

Web applications in AXIS Camera Station Edge
Note
Use the AXIS Camera Station Edge web client to connect to your site. You don't need to install any software on your PC or Mac. The availability of some features below depends on your camera's capabilities.
Video operation

| Share video and export | Share links to a specific point in a recording and export sections of video. Exports include recordings from all storage locations in the selected time period, including both local and cloud storage if cloud storage is enabled. |

| Control PTZ cameras | Control PTZ cameras, including PTZ presets. |
| 360° panoramic dewarp | Dewarp 360° panoramic video in both live view and replay. |

| Cloud storage | Save your recordings securely in the cloud, in the region of your choice. A single license stores recordings at 15 fps and 720p for 30 days. Add licenses to increase resolution to 1080p or extend the storage duration. |

| Design a solution with AXIS Site Designer | The tool includes camera, accessory, and recorder selectors and a built-in storage calculator. It also provides a bill of materials, installation notes, and a price quotation. |
| Configuration sheet | Create a site configuration document. |
| Automatic device discovery | Discovers devices on the network automatically, even without IP address configuration. |
| HTTPS by default | Selects HTTPS communication by default when you add a device, and falls back to HTTP for devices that don't support it. |
| Automatic view creation | The Windows client generates default views automatically. These views are always available, even offline, to all users, and always include every available camera. When you add or remove a camera, the views update automatically. |
| Image configuration | Adjust camera image settings, including brightness, color, WDR, rotation, and privacy mask. |
| PTZ presets | Add and save PTZ presets so you can quickly move and zoom to an area of interest, such as a garage entrance, to capture a license plate. |

Management of devices

| AXIS OS upgrades | AXIS Camera Station Edge updates your devices automatically. New updates download and install automatically when available, but you can also schedule them. |
| Device properties | Shows an overview of the device model, MAC address, AXIS OS version, and IP address. |
| Set time and date | Synchronizes your Axis devices automatically with an NTP (Network Time Protocol) source, the Axis internet time server by default. You can also set the time manually by syncing with your local computer's time. |
| Install a camera application (ACAP) | A camera application adds functionality to Axis network video products, such as detection, recognition, tracking, or counting. Install an ACAP directly from the AXIS Camera Station Edge client, or download it from the Axis or vendor's website. |
| Restart device | An administrator can restart a device from the client, without needing to be on-site. |
| Remove device | Removes the device from the site and resets it to factory defaults, unless factory reset is off. |
| Refresh all | Reloads the configuration workspace and refreshes the status of all devices on the site. |

Reporting and verification

| Data encryption | AXIS Camera Station Edge uses strong encryption protocols, both in transit and at rest. All communication between devices and the cloud is encrypted for data integrity and confidentiality, using TLS 1.2 in transit and AES-256 at rest. |
| Secure authentication | Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security for user access to cloud services. Role-based access control lets administrators define and manage user permissions, so only authorized personnel can access sensitive data. |
| Data residency (cloud storage) | Choose the geographic region where your video is stored, to comply with local data residency requirements and regulations. |
| Automatic updates | Devices and the system receive regular security updates and patches to protect against the latest threats and vulnerabilities. |
